In the State of Rhode Island apostilles are issued by the Secretary of State in Providence.

Documents submitted for apostille need to comply with the following guidelines:

  • Vital Records presented for apostille need to be issued by the State Deputy or Satte Registrar from the Department of Health.Documents issued by a Town or City Clerk are not acceptable for apostille.
  • Notarized documents are acceptable for apostille if they have a complete notarial acknowledgement certificate signed and stamped by a notary public and include the date when the documents have been notarized.
  • School records such as diplomas and transcripts need to be notarized by the school registrar.
