In the State of Washington apostilles are issued by the Washington State Corporations Division of the Washington Secretary of State in Olympia.

Documents submitted for apostille in Washington need to comply with the following guidelines:

  • Documents presented to apostille birth and death certificates or other vital records need to be certified copies issued by the State Registrar or Health Officer. For marriage certificates, certified copies must be issued by County auditors and for divorce decrees, theymust be issued by the Superior Court Clerk.
  • In order to apostille school records issued by a high school or a university, you need notarized copies of your documents issued by the principal or the University registrar bearing the school seal.
